The Manners and More Board and Train Program

$2900

4-6 week Boot camp, 2 private lessons

Our boot camp boarding and training option is for those who want the ultimate training program for their dog. We accept a maximum of two dogs at a time for this program. Your dog will spend their time with me and my family at my home. They will receive several daily training sessions and learn to behave in a real home environment. Board and Train dogs will also accompany me on family outings at parks and Pet friendly businesses so they can learn to be a mannered companion in all situations. This option is perfect for the family that wants a well behaved off leash dog but does not have the time to do all that hard work themselves. Contact us today to see if you and your dog qualify for this program.

The above program carries our guarantee and includes a year of training follow up. What this means is if after the completion of this program you later find your dog struggling with any commands that were included in the program we will provide refresher training at no additional cost to you

Puppy Head Start (8-16 weeks old)

$2900

4 week training camp and 2 private lessons

Are you struggling with your new puppy? Are you finding it difficult to get your new family member the socialization they need? Our puppy head start program will lay the foundation your puppy needs to be a well behaved and welcome member of the family. They will learn to sleep soundly through the night, potty outside, what is and isn’t appropriate to chew on. They will learn the foundations of all their basic obedience commands with a strong emphasis on coming when called and settling in the home. They will learn to play nicely with other dogs and children. Your puppy will have a rich learning experience on over one acre of fenced property; the perfect place to learn to behave off-leash from the beginning. Your puppy will receive critical early exposure to many different sights, sounds and smells. They will learn to behave right alongside many of the animals we have here on our mini-ranch to include; a giant tortoise, chickens, ducks and quail and maybe even a falcon or two. After your puppy’s stay with our family you’ll receive two return home lessons to show you everything your puppy learned and how to continue building on the foundation we laid.

Why 8-16 weeks? But my puppy isn't fully vaccinated?

“Drs. Scott and Fuller documented critical periods in the development of the canine in 1953. A critical period is a specific time in the maturation process when a small amount of experience will produce a great effect on later behavior. It's also a period when learning is easier and knowledge gained is stored in the long term memory. The difference between the amount of effort needed to produce the same effect at different periods determines just how critical the period is. There is a window of opportunity in which certain experiences need to happen at a specific time, or the window will close and the potential benefits of those experiences will be lost.

Understanding the critical periods affords an excellent resource in which to shape the character traits of individual puppies so that they can achieve the highest adaptability potential for their future.

Secondary/human Socialization Period 50 to 84 Days (7 to 12 weeks)

The secondary socialization period begins when a puppy leaves his mother and littermates to start his new life which is typically at 49 days. Although the puppy should have been exposed to people at a much younger age, this is the time when socialization need to continue in earnest. Puppies should meet as many different types of people as possible during this stage. It is also important to expose the puppy to as many different environments as possible.”*

This is the stage most neglected by new puppy owners. Driven by fear of disease in an incompletely vaccinated puppy, often at the direction of their veterinarian, the puppies are isolated during this most critical period. When they should be experiencing the most they are instead sheltered completely by well meaning owners. While diseases such as Parvovirus are a real concern that does not mean you should isolate your puppy. A dog is much more likely to be later euthanized because of behavioral problems than they are to die from Parvo. Mitigating the risks of infection while providing a rich socialization experience during this critical period is not difficult but if you want the best for your dog it must be done. Nothing breaks my heart more than to show up to someone's house to evaluate a puppy and to find a nervous dog that is afraid of everything and be told, “Well we were waiting for their vaccinations to be finished.”.

Whether you choose to work with me or not I urge you to get your puppy safe, quality socialization. Meet as many people as possible and expose to as many different environments during this critical time. End rant.

I have a two year old 118 pound German Shepherd named Bo. I had done some training on my own but Bo had no leash manners and no “stay” Within five minutes Nate got Bo to stop pulling on the Leash! And we now have a very solid “stay” with lots of distractions around. Nate gave me the skills to work with Bo on my own. Awesome work Nate...Thank You!
